Sumsub’s Berlin office: how to build a space with character?

When an IT company relocates, the pivotal question is: 'What should this new space actually be like?' This was our starting point for the Sumsub project in Berlin. We presented the concept using 3D sketches directly from Revit, which allowed for the lightning-fast approval of functional layouts and visual directions.

Sumsub was moving into a 290 m² space designed for 18 workstations. The existing interior didn't align with the company’s spirit or its actual needs. This called for a comprehensive project—starting from a fresh concept and functional layout, all the way down to the finest details.

We began our work by "immersing" ourselves in the team's unique culture. We wanted to understand how they work, what they value, and the kind of atmosphere they want to experience every single day.

Even as the design was underway, Sumsub decided to lease an additional floor. This called for a rapid adaptation and expansion of the original concept. It was one of those moments where a professional design proves its true value—it’s not just a static image, but a 'living' document that evolves alongside the business. By working in a BIM (Revit) environment, we were able to precisely manage changes and maintain full control over the space as a whole, long before the first hammer hit the nail.

At its core, the design is rooted in a deep understanding of the company’s culture. The wall graphics, posters, and informal chillout zones aren't just "art for art’s sake." They represent a conscious choice to create an environment where people feel at ease—both during and after work hours.

A standout feature is the area adjacent to the kitchen. Sumsub has a fantastic tradition: on weekends, the team gathers on the terrace for a barbecue. The interior had to support this social bond. We designed a space that allows for a seamless transition from "task mode" to "relationship mode.

Aby murale i graffiti naturalnie wpisały się w wystrój, zaproponowaliśmy nieszablonowe wykończenie ścian. Zamiast zwykłego tynku użyliśmy białych paneli korkowych o fakturze przypominającej bloki konstrukcyjne.

To rozwiązanie zadziałało na trzech poziomach:

• Wizualnym: nadało wnętrzu unikalną teksturę.
• Akustycznym: poprawiło komfort pracy w strefie open space.
• Funkcjonalnym: stworzyło idealne podłoże dla artystów. Ściany stały się integralną częścią designu, a nie tylko tłem.

Przeszliśmy pełną drogę od koncepcji po realizację. Stworzyliśmy projekt, zaplanowaliśmy ergonomiczne strefy i dopilnowaliśmy każdego etapu wdrożenia. Zespół Sumsub zyskał biuro, które jest po prostu wygodne i „ich”.

Projektowanie wnętrz to dla nas przede wszystkim dbanie o ludzi, którzy będą w nich przebywać. Wiemy, jak połączyć estetykę z funkcjonalnością, by biuro stało się „miejscem mocy” dla całego zespołu.
