Milan Design Week through Tengo Design’s eyes

Every April, Milan becomes the centre of the design world. During Milan Design Week, the city turns into one huge exhibition space. Salone del Mobile takes over the fairgrounds in Rho, while Fuorisalone fills the streets, courtyards, galleries, historic buildings and showrooms across the city. This year, representatives of Tengo Design had the pleasure of visiting Milan Design Week once again. And once again, we came back inspired. It is hard not to. Milan has a unique energy during this time. You do not only visit the fair. You feel that the whole city is alive with design.

A city that becomes one big showroom

One of the strongest impressions from this year’s edition was the atmosphere outside the fair itself. Of course, Salone del Mobile remains the heart of the week. It gathers leading furniture, lighting and interior brands from all over the world. But what makes Milan Design Week so special is the fact that design spreads far beyond the exhibition halls.
Open showrooms in the city centre, temporary installations, brand presentations and creative pop-ups made Milan feel like one large, beautifully curated stand. You could walk from one district to another and discover something interesting almost by accident.
This is exactly why it is worth going to Milan. Not only to see new products, but to feel whether the way you design is still current. It is a moment to compare ideas, notice details and understand where commercial and residential interiors are heading.

Trends, mood and first impressions

This year, the event did not feel like a season of loud revolutions. Many producers focused less on surprising "big news" and more on refining what already works. The strongest impression was not one single product or trend, but the overall direction: comfort, flexibility, softer forms, warmer materials and interiors that feel more human.
We noticed a clear focus on spaces that invite people to stay longer. Sofas, chairs, modular systems and lounge furniture were designed not only to look good, but also to support relaxation, informal meetings and everyday comfort.
There was also a lot of attention to colour, texture and tactile materials. Interiors are becoming less cold and formal. They are more personal, layered and welcoming. This is especially important in offices, hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces, where atmosphere has a direct impact on how people feel and behave.

Brands we follow closely

For Tengo Design, Milan Design Week is also a great opportunity to meet and observe the brands we work with or follow closely. This year, we paid special attention to names such as Mara, Pedrali, Infiniti, MIDJ and Plust.
These brands show very well how contemporary design is evolving. Their products combine function, quality and strong visual identity. They work in offices, hospitality interiors, public spaces and private homes. This is exactly the kind of flexibility that modern interior design needs.
We were especially interested in solutions that can soon appear in commercial projects: comfortable seating, elegant tables, outdoor furniture, modular systems and pieces that help create relaxed, informal zones. These are the elements that often define the atmosphere of a workplace or hospitality space.

Milan Design Week 2026

Even if not every edition brings spectacular product premieres, Milan Design Week remains one of the most important events in the design calendar. It helps us stay close to the industry, meet partners, see products live and understand the mood of the market.
Photos and catalogues are useful, but they never replace physical experience. You need to sit on a chair, touch the fabric, see the proportions, check the finish and feel how a piece behaves in real space. This is especially important when we later recommend products to our clients.
At Tengo Design, we believe good design starts with curiosity. Visiting events like Milan Design Week helps us keep that curiosity alive. It gives us fresh ideas, confirms some of our choices and inspires new ones.
We came back from Milan with the same feeling as always: design is not standing still. It is constantly changing, becoming more thoughtful, more comfortable and more connected to real human needs. And that is exactly the direction we want to follow in our projects.
